Classes Completed:
ARTI 115 - Intro to Interior Design: This course provides the student with an overview of the interior design profession. Through a survey of significant spaces and innovations in styles and furnishings students examine how interior design affects human activity. Life safety codes and human performance are emphasized.
ARTI 261 - Design Studio I: This course emphasizes a systematic approach to the design process: conceptualization, development, and synthesis. Students explore two and three-dimensional communication techniques to effectively develop and present design ideas by understanding architectural space to measure the existence and expand awareness, focusing on compositional principles of design and methods for analyzing and generating spatial organizations.
ARTI 231 - Graphics I: Design Communication: The ability to sketch design ideas confidently is a valuable tool for designers. This course emphasizes the skill of drawing quickly by teaching visual note taking, generating visual ideas, working from non-visual sources, and establishing a method for accurate perspective drawing. Manual architectural drafting introduced as means of visual communication. Color rendering techniques are introduced that add surface texture, tonality, reflections, and shades and shadows.
ARTH 481 - Modern History of Interiors: Class no longer available, no description provided.
ARTI 232 - Graphics II: Digital Visual Communication: Intro to AutoCAD, basic floor plans, elevations, sections, and details required in residential field. Intro to design development and presentations.
ARTI 333 - Graphics III: Building Information Modeling: Expands BMI skills to include residential and commercial design projects and the use of features such as building construction, multi-levels, curtain walls, and store fronts. Expand use of BMI by using advanced program features to implement commercial design.
ARTI 362 - Design Studio II: Theoretical principles and the conceptual design process in the design of objects interfacing with human interactions. Aesthetic and functioning issues in furniture. Assess user needs, develop programs, apply research to design outcomes. Attention to anthropometric and ergonomic considerations. Structural principles, constructing prototype furniture.
ARTI 373 - Interior Lighting and Color: Lighting fundamentals and application of various types of interior environments. Analyze spatial requirements for lights, select systems, draw ceiling plans, draw electrical plans, lighting legends, lighting schedules, codes, emergency lighting. Understanding daylight and relationship between lighting and color. Application of color theory in interior design.
